Family values and keeping up with the times

Tradition behind modern thinking

Family values and keeping up with the times: Michael Pritt, proprietor of The Wentworth Hotel speaks to us about what being the only truly independent hotel in Aldeburgh means for tradition, service and style – and answers our quick fire questions.
Owned and managed by the Pritt family since 1920, The Wentworth has maintained its traditional values. At the same time, it embraces the ever higher levels of creature comforts and service demanded by the modern day guest. They state that the technology revolution of our time has had a positive impact on making The Wentworth a greener place to stay and work.
Michael chooses to actively work in the hotel and tells us he takes great pride in the service levels and atmosphere that have been lovingly created.

Style opportunities and local partners

“The continual programme of refurbishment has enabled The Wentworth to change imperceptibly with trends in such a way that returning guests feel as comfortable with the new as they were with the old. Embedded values are retained but in the guise of contemporary decoration, fabrics and furniture. Consciously seeking out local companies to use during each refurbishment, Anglia Factors have been a key player.
Many of The Wentworth’s sumptuous bedrooms have glorious sea views. Those in Darfield House are clustered around a beautiful courtyard garden, a suntrap in the afternoon, sheltered sometimes from the welcome cool sea breezes.
The main hotel has two sea-facing gardens which are hot spots in terms of weather and demand.
During the summer months the gardens are our guests’ favourite places to sit. They ponder, laugh and watch the world go by whilst enjoying a morning cafetiere of fresh coffee, an alfresco lunch, a glass of wine or a delicious tea of homemade scones, clotted cream and jam.
General Manager, James Green oversees the daily running of the hotel. The high standard of personal service is as much in evidence now as it was in past times. The Wentworth Restaurant offers the sophistication of traditional dining with tables dressed with crisp white linen table cloths and luxury linen napkins but delivered within a friendly, informal service. Our team of 7 chefs serve considered menus combining traditional and modern dishes and using the best in local produce, utilising our fresh meat, fish and vegetable suppliers. The menus change on a daily basis to ensure that only the freshest food is used.
Myself, James Green and all the Wentworth team look forward to welcoming you to our hotel.”
