Trends in kitchen & interior design

Leading kitchen and interior specialist, Anglia Factors, has been designing and building kitchens and bathrooms as well as all other interiors for more for over 40 years. Owner, Daniel Barr, takes a look at the emerging trends for the discerning Suffolk homeowner.

Some themes in kitchen design are enduring but, thanks to innovation, fashion and technological advancement, each year many new trends emerge. Consumers continue to have a yearning for kitchen appliances that are sleek, functional and easy to clean. Manufacturers such as Neff, KitchenAid and Miele continue to dominate this market 2015.

Indeed, the latest range of ovens by Neff includes features such as touchscreen TFT display, pyrolytic cleaning and a door that slides away neatly under the oven when open as seen on the Great British Bake Off.
This year, we’€™re seeing a trend for contrasting modern minimalism with the more traditional. Handleless doors, matte finishes, hidden storage and kitchen islands are being twinned with old fashioned full height, dark wood cabinetry.
We’€™re seeing contrasting colours and styles coming back in as dark blue, grey and purple are paired with light colours and loud wallpaper. Let’s not forget texture: tactile materials are becoming trendier.

We’re seeing a lot of natural marble and granite with raw finishes. We are also seeing the use of wood in its natural form, rather than polished up for a gloss finish.

Other new trends to emerge so far this year are: built-in pet beds, pantry style cupboards, hot taps that produce instant boiling water, full height stone splash-backs to match worktops, retractable extractor fans and separate utility or boot rooms.

Bathroom trends continue to be influenced by what’s hot in the kitchen; this means you can expect to find less tiling, more quartz, underfloor heating, square sinks and technology in the bathrooms of 2015. Baths are being replaced by walk-in, rain-top showers.
Aquavision, the leading British manufacturer of waterproof, flush televisions, already offers four different styles for your bathroom. In April, the company will release two new products: a waterproof touchscreen and an above-basin vanity mirror with in-built and invisible screen.
