For those who love great local food and that buzz of a farmers market or food festival, we took a moment to speak to Justine Paul of Suffolk Market Events to see what delicious treats she has in store in the run up to Christmas.
Foody Events to get your taste buds tingling
There’s plenty lined up between now and Christmas with Bury St Edmunds Farmers Market on Sunday December 10th, Sudbury farmers’ market on Friday December 15th, Lavenham farmers’ market on Sunday December 17th and Hadleigh market is held every Friday morning, all year round with a special Christmas Market being held on Saturday December 23rd.
Quality control = the best locally produced food
At Suffolk Market Events we care about the provenance of our local food. Everything that is sold in our markets has been produced by the person who is selling and nothing will have travelled further than fifty miles to be at the event. We don’t do mass produced food, we showcase the highest quality, locally produced food.
Readily accessible favourites
Suffolk Market Events currently runs three monthly farmers’ markets in Lavenham, Sudbury and Bury St Edmunds throughout the year. So, if you find something you love, you can always find it again.
A tasty Suffolk story
Two of these markets were rescued from the brink of closure and all are now thriving monthly events and worthy winners of numerous awards. The social impact of all these markets is evident, socially, environmentally and economically. All the markets have become an intrinsic part of their surroundings and all have greatly increased community cohesion.
We work with small scale producers. Pitch fees are kept very reasonable in order to provide a sustainable, low cost platform for these small scale enterprises, giving them the opportunity to develop and grow. I have helped many start-up businesses evolve from tiny enterprises into big businesses and this, fundamentally is what Suffolk Market Events is all about.
A High five for Hadleigh
For the past fifteen months we have been working in partnership with Babergh District Council to improve the weekly street market in Hadleigh. This is proving to be a hugely successful project; stall numbers have increased hand in hand with customer numbers and Hadleigh’s community is delighted to have a decent market to shout about!
Food festivals as well as markets – The Taste of Sudbury
Last summer we took over the running of the Taste of Sudbury Food & Drink Festival which was in desperate need of a makeover. Over sixty stalls filled the town centre and eight of Suffolk’s most exciting chefs took to the stage throughout the day using local food. Visitor numbers far exceeded those of previous years and with such fantastic feedback we are extending the event in 2018 to include a week-long series of fringe events. We aim to attract over 8,000 people to the town centre on Sunday June 10th and work is underway to ensure this event is a huge success. We are currently inviting a number of top businesses to come on board as sponsors in 2018 and if you would like to know more about our sponsorship opportunities then please do get in touch.
