This contemporary country kitchen is a great example of a rustic feel with all the clean design and practical advantages of modern appliances. Beautiful oak in the doors and eating area sits alongside natural stone under brushed steel pendant lighting and muted colours are flooded with light from large picture windows.
The kitchen worktops and splashbacks are grey mottled granite – the splashback behind the AGA being full height, and the flooring is a creamy porcelain tile. The granite is etched out to form a sink drainer into the Franke side-by-side sink. An interesting feature is the oak table that occupies a semi-circular recess in the island providing an eating area that is quite literally a moveable feast.
Cooking is made easy by a choice of AGA and contemporary country Neff induction hob and ovens. Extraction is also provided by Neff in the form of a rise and fall downdraft extractor, an increasingly popular option for those that don’t want larger high-level extractors. The refrigeration is from a large, double door Fisher Paykel fridge.
The room is well lit by several floor-to-ceiling windows and three feature large brushed steel pendant lights over the island that add yet more natural elements to the contemporary country kitchen. Pendant lighting has been another growing trend recently although it is always augmented by down lighters that fill the room with light while the pendant focus on the preparation area. Painted cupboards and a dresser provide plenty of storage, including a wine rack above the fridge, and the brushed chrome handles work well with the grey granite.
All-in-all this is a relaxed, open style kitchen that is a good reflection of today’s social demands for a larger attractive space where Cook can converse with diners during the meal preparation and the room can be used for a lot more besides.
