Margaret Talbot, Marketing Manager at VitrA, one of the world’s biggest bathroom companies, looks at adding style to the smallest rooms.
Bathrooms have changed dramatically. No longer is the typical British bathroom a chilly space that houses a basin, bath with shower and a WC. The range of products now available from good bathroom retailers means that bleak, neglected space can be a haven of style and comfort.

Cocoon bath from VitrA

Stylish fittings, space for toiletries, good lighting and mirrors and an ample supply of hot water come high on the bathroom wish list. There’s nothing nicer or more appealing to guests tired after a long day than an indulgent wallow in a super-size bath. Focal point 4life baths, designed for VitrA by Noa come in three stunning shapes – including circular and a deep double ended model that’s big enough for two. If there’s space a separate shower is always appreciated. If not, opt for an over bath model but remember that shower curtains have no place in a luxury environment. Choose a shower bath with an integral screen – VitrA has a choice of three designs. Before you install a large bath or a power shower, check that your water pressure is up to the job. Your installer will advise.

V Care from VitrA

Wall hung fittings have long been a favourite in Europe. The WC and bidet are suspended from the wall supported by a concealed frame. All that is visible is the fitting itself and a flush plate. Ugly pipework is hidden away and cleaning is easy because the fittings are clear of the floor. Wall hung also makes a small bathroom appear larger – and is flexible – if there’s a window in the way, the pan can be set at a lower height. There is no need to worry about safety – a VitrA WC pan suspended from a wall frame will safely hold up to 60 stones/ 380kg. VitrA’s V-Care Comfort WC is perfect for multi-generational families. It features a sensor that opens the lid as the user approaches, adjustable washing and drying functions, a heated seat and more. The pan is wall hung so can be set at a comfortable height. It also features odour control and VitrA’s Rim-ex construction which means there is no rim around the inside of the pan for germs and limescale to lurk.

Sento Bathroom Furniture from VitrA

The old style basin and pedestal has no place in a luxury bathroom. A basin built into a piece of furniture that also incorporates a mirror along with useful storage and additional space for cosmetics and toiletries adds style and practicality to the bathroom. Developed for superior hygiene, the VitrA M-Line series features a range of innovative developments that provide smart, practical solutions. All M-Line washbasins have a specially-designed bowl, with precisely the right combination of depth, shape and incline to promote the maximum flow of dirt to the waste area, preventing a build-up of residue on the bowl surface. In addition, all M-Line washbasins can be fitted with either standard metal waste covers, or VitrA’s special ceramic waste cover. M-Line furniture designed to complement the basins comes in an extensive choice of sizes and finishes making choosing the right combination easy. M-Line is just one of many furniture choices from VitrA, there really is something to suit every bathroom, ranging from fun Scandi style Sento to luxury Memoria from international designer Christophe Pillet.

Finally, don’t forget accessories. Wall mounted fittings are neat and will cut the clutter. Essentials are robe hooks, toothbrush holder and glass, soap dish, soap or lotion dispenser, toilet brush and towel rails or shelves. VitrA’s Diagon chrome and glass collection will suit any bathroom.
We recommend and install VitrA luxury bathroom fittings frequently and are happy to discuss your refurbishment or new build project – call us on 01473 610192 or pop in and see us in Martlesham.
